Queer Issues
Why is Finding a Queer Specialized Therapist Important?
Many therapists advertise themselves as working with LGBTQ issues because the identify as allies, or have some basic education in working with queer issues. In my experience, queer identities in therapy require more than a basic understanding of identities and the community. You deserve care that understands the nuances and specific needs of queer individuals.
My queer and trans identity is a critical part of who I am as an individual and as a therapist. It is my personal philosophy that I hold a responsibility to bring my entire self into therapy in order to connect and support you in your own journey. I understand that for many individuals it can be important to find a therapist with a deep understanding of the queer community. This is largely what drew me to therapeutic work as a professional. I find myself able to deeply connect with clients within my community and to offer services that move beyond “queer friendly” into being expansive, engaged, and aware. My focus is to move beyond the basics into a dynamic, exploratory space where your whole identity can show up without concern for judgement or stereotypes dictating your therapy experience. While every identity and experience is unique, I draw upon years of experience within the queer community along with specialized advanced trainings in GLBTQ mental health and my own PhD research to offer a well rounded and informed therapeutic perspective. I work to affirm your identity and personal experiences while providing a safe, informed space to explore curiosities, sexuality, interpersonal relationships, and personal needs. While not every queer identified individual seeks therapy directly related to their gender identity and sexual orientation, having a therapist that understands these issues on a deeper level can significantly increase the potential for self-exploration and personal growth that can be attained in therapy.

A Note on Gender Identity and Transgender Care:
The process of exploring your gender identity is deeply personal and unique to you. I often support individuals who are uncertain if pursuing a different gender expression is right for them. In my office, we will work to explore your relationship with gender identity, engage curiosities around potential gender affirming changes, and develop a more established sense of self. I work with individuals all along the spectrum of gender expression and in all stages of their gender identity exploration. At Entwine Therapy, I use the Gender Affirmative Lifespan Approach to allow you the space to explore yourself and your identity without an agenda for transition or an expectation of gender rigidity. This journey is all your own, I am here to walk the path with you.
